Here’s What You Need to Know

With the recent shutdown of the 3G mobile network in Australia, many devices that previously relied on 3G connectivity are now at risk of losing service. This includes the 4G Life Alert Personal Alarms. If your alarm's firmware hasn’t been updated since it was purchased, it might still be trying to connect to the 3G network, making it non-functional when needed.

Why Is My 4G Personal Alarm Still Trying To Use 3G?

Some 4G personal alarms come pre-installed with firmware designed to connect over both 3G and 4G networks. When some of these devices were manufactured, 3G was widely available, and the alarms were programmed to prioritise 3G for calls. Now, with the 3G shutdown, any outdated firmware can prevent the device from correctly switching to 4G, potentially leaving you without a reliable connection.

How Can A Firmware Update Fix This?

The good news is that the Keep Track 4G Personal Alarms can be easily updated to switch entirely to the 4G network for calls and alerts. The latest firmware update switches the device to connect to Telstra and Optus' 4G networks.

Steps to Ensure Your 4G Alarms Firmware Is Upto Date!

If your device cannot make or receive calls, a firmware update may be required.

If you’re unsure your device is affected, jump to Step 3 below.

If your firmware version is not one of 2 shown: Please start at step 1 Send the Text Command. UV

To ensure your device is operating on the 4G network, simply follow these steps to update your firmware:


1: Send a Text Command: To update the firmware, send a text message with the following command to your device: [ UV ] *Please note you will need to send this SMS from a phone number that is on the device you wish to update.

2: Check for a Response: The firmware update may take a few minutes to complete.


Check for the following: By sending B it should come back with either of the following.


 

Other APN That May Be Seen:

  • APN: telstra.m2m
  • APN: telstra.internet
  • APN: mdata.net.au
  • APN: yesinternet

Once the firmware is updated, your device should use the 4G network, ensuring it can reliably send messages and make calls.

If your firmware fails to update, please contact us. Depending on how old the firmware is, extra steps may be required to update the device.

*Please be aware that once updated, your device will have voice confirmations activated. This may let the user know the following:

SOS Button has been activated - Press the SOS Button to cancel
Your alarm has been cancelled
Fall Has been Detected – Cancel by Pressing the SOS Button
Fall alert has been Cancelled
Your battery is low Please recharge soon
Your Alarm is charging
Your Alarm is turning off - followed by an SMS to contact #1 [ Press button off ]
Your Alarm is turning on
Calling contact #1, #2, #3, #4 etc

You may also need to use the following commands:

    • Device Quick Call: Q6,1 - - - Cancel: Q6,0 - - - - Call is made before SMS is sent.

    • SMS Only:   Q1,1 - - - SMS is sent before the call is made

    • Block unknown callers:  Q2,0

    • To enable the voice feedback: Q9,1 / To turn off Voice Feedback: Q9,0
