The new Iridium Edge Solar is designed to be a simple, low-cost, solar-based tracking device. Connectivity is delivered through the fully secure global Iridium Satellite Network and features 2-way communication and Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity. You can attach the Solar Edge GPS tracker to a boat, vehicle or other asset and then forget. Regular GPS tracking reports would then be sent from the unit, with the internal battery being recharged by the in-built solar panel. Even when there isn't much sunlight, by combining the long life that solar power delivers with the dependability of a battery backup.
The Iridium Edge® Solar is a standalone and programmable, solar-powered Short Burst Data (SBD®) device that offers real-time GPS tracking and local wireless sensor and communication capabilities over Bluetooth. The product’s self-charging, requires minimal maintenance, designed to be used in tough environments for either mobile or fixed asset monitoring. It supports real-time GPS tracking, local wireless sensors, and communication capabilities over Bluetooth.
Its backup battery will support reporting up to twice daily for five years. The Iridium Edge Solar is for customers who need a quite simple tracking device that they can set and forget. Therefore, if you need a simple autonomous tracker, with global coverage, transmitting every few hours, this could be exactly what you need.
